Guitarist Tony Sandeman is a musician and jazz educator with over 40 years of experience across a wide spectrum of music gigging throughout the UK and Europe.

After formative years studying Delta Blues and Ragtime, Tony moved through rock and ultimately to his lifelong love of Jazz music, inspired by the early jazz-rock music of Miles Davis and John McLaughlin.

In 1975 Tony was asked to join Kenny Baxter’s Turntable alongside some of the finest players in the country including bassist John Mole (Coliseum), and drummer Bobby Armstrong. It was with Turntable that Tony met the late Peter Jacobsen, one of the finest jazz pianists to have emerged from this country. Tony and Peter worked in many projects together including the highly popular band C level, and toured with Ben E King until Pete’s death in 2002. “Working with Pete was the best education a musician could ask for; not just jazz, but in all forms of music” Tony has said.

As a player Tony has worked with some of the UK’s finest players including; Tim Whitehead, Derek Nash, Gary Plumley, Bobby Wellins, Don Weller, Sean Freeman, Reg Webb, Digby Fairweather, Liane Carroll, and many more. He has also toured with many American and British soul artists such as Martha Reeves and the Vandelas, Ben E King, The Detroit Emeralds and Linda Lewis.

Tony has also been teaching guitar and bass for over 30 years specialising in jazz and fusion music, and was course director for the highly successful series of jazz workshops held in Southend during the 1990’s.

During the past few years Tony has concentrated on his own band “Natural Selection” and has worked as arranger and bass player for the 17 piece Michael Buble tribute band “The Real Swing”.

He continues to teach guitar and bass from his studio in Rivenhall, Essex, and can be seen working with Reg Webb and standing in for the outstanding guitarist Guthrie Govan in the phenomenal “Fellowship of Funk” at Chelmsford’s Bassment Club.
